And then the day in early April arrives when D. Wright and I both don our pink ball caps and jerseys and head on out to the field. What? No? The Mets colors aren't pink and white? What about the Red Sox? Yankees? Not even the Cleveland Indians? Wait, there's no baseball team that has pink uniforms? Really? Huh. What about football? The Steelers maybe. Hockey? The Bruins just won the Stanley Cup in their pink jerseys and helmets, right? Fine. Maybe a women's team. Team USA Women's soccer.
No! No team in the history of sports has pink as their team color. So why in the world would you even think about wearing pink to your team's game? You simply convey yourself as a...a...chippee. I don't know what else to call it. And you know what I mean. Someone who goes to games because the boys look cute in their tight pants. Or because that guy was on Dancing with the Stars. Or because the beer is cold. (Ok, the last one's allowed.) Don't believe me, just Google "Toucher & Rich, Ask A Pink Hat."
But listen. Seriously, manufacturers are quite aware of the rising female sports fan base and are making clothes and accessories that are both cute and fit for us. And they're NOT pink!

Don't get on my case because I showed you my teams' apparel. Say all you want about the success and failures of each of them this year and in the past, but I am loyal to the end. I'm going to a Red Sox game next week and though I won't be so disrespectful as to wear my Mets cap or t-shirt, I sure won't be wearing any Sox gear. Nor will I be wearing pink.
